What is Naadi Jothidam, Naadi Josiyam, Nadi Astrology?
'naadi' means, 'In search of' in Tamil.
Since a person goes 'in search of' his scripture(Olai chuvadi), using his thumb impression, it's called 'Naadi Jothidam'.
First, Thumb impression(right for male, left for female) are taken, and the astrologer identifies the pattern in the impression and identifies the category in which the scripture(Olai chuvadi) will be found.
Olai chuvadis are tied in bunches of 100(much like stapling 100 papers).
Each bunch has 50 Olais(leafs) and it has contents written on both sides, counting to a total of 100.
So each bunch will have information of 100 persons(one leaf(Olai) for each person).
The first chuvadi is like an index.
The astrologer asks few questions, for which you have to respond 'Yes' or 'No' and he eliminates the non-matching index Olai's and finally he might end up in one Olai in which all the questions will end up with getting a 'Yes' from you. At that point, they have identified your 'Olai Chuvadi'.
Then they get the detail scriptures(another bunch of chuvadis) and read it for you.

i have a big doubt on this nadi astrology. Y the astrologer asks indirect questions (like is u'r father name starts with ka,sa ...). Y not direct questions.

I am Bala I have visited one of the Nadi Jothidar and I find my name, parents name, wife name are correct. At the same time for all the peoples they are telling some thosams to rectify the same they want to do the parigaram. The parigaram cost seems to be very high about more than Rs.5000/-. Everything is right but the parigaram matter seems to be very tough to me. Eventhough I agreed for the same. Even myself recommanded two/three peoples to go there. However, We should have faith on us first and work hard without working nothing can happen.
So be carefull. I had some money so i spent. But i kept the money in front of some gods photos. I have to wait and see.

I had once heard that in nadi jodhidam if it is there in your predictions that you would come for predictions and consultation you would else you will not go for a nadi joshiar. Also if u cant find the chuvadi with one of the josiayars then if u try u can find with the other. since the olaichuvadis are scattered among the nadi jodidar community.

i went to arround 6 nadi jothidam readers of different places in tamil nadu with assuming different combination of name of mine,

In Nadi, they get almost all the details from your own mouth including your birth date. They ask questions like whether your name is less than 5 letters or more. If more than 5 is it less than 10 and so on. And they start asking whether name begins with kr and end with na. If you say yes, they ask whether sh is in between and if yes, they say your name is Krishna. Easy to guess. They repeat all the permutation of letters , rasi birth year etc. in this manner as if they are reading from the Palm Leaf. Then they arrive at your birth horoscope and they provide your predictions from the horoscope. Quite smart is'nt it? 99% of the people, they get the palm leaf reading. If there are so many millions of people exists, do you think they will be possessing all the leaves, that too most of the leaves have been destroyed by Britishers?

I had an experience with a nadi josiyar in Arumbakkam, Chennai. He did'nt take my thumb impression though.Date of birth and time and then he read out from different pages in a very old book. Very accurate about my past. Told about things which cannot be guessed like my wife's lineage and culture, time of marriage, my grandmother's marriage, my work, industry, present state of mind, what I have been doing for the last few years and a lot many things which threw me out of balance. It was going in sequence. But when he reached the part where my future was going to start he closed the book and told that he is not interested to go on. Very highly knowledgeable man. But very moody. Does not charge anything. Whatever we give on our own volition he accepts.

I went with my mother to a Nadi joshiyar in T.Nagar in Chennai...I was not totally convinced..he managed to guess my name,my parents' name but after many leading questions and guesses only....he said that I had done some sins(paavam) in the previous life and that if I dont do remedies for that(parikrama)I would be plauged by problems throughout my life...he said that these remedies had to be performed only through THEIR own gurus for a period of 96 days...and that if i did this my life would be very happy and that i would make a lot of money etc..he then quoted the amount around Rs.70 per day which works out to be more than Rs.6500 for the prescribed period...he even said there was imminent danger in my life if I did not start the parikrama immediately...i just paid for Rs.300 for the prediction and left.convinced it was a scam...comments?

A small correction. Normally the meaning of "Naadi" in Tamil, when translated will read as "To approach".
I have visited this place in tambaram. I went there with a lot of hope and anticipation. But, I was extremely disappointed in the end. My advice to others is never visit this place with expectations of accurate predictions. My predictions were exactly what I told them during their questioning. There is no yes/no. They very cleverly gather the information out of you by repeating the same questions repeated with different choices every 5 mins or so. Everything they told me is what I told them earlier. I could have done a better job with the little astrology i know. Do not waste your money. I always had a fascination for Nadi but now I'm beginning to think it doesn't exist!!!! Sorry to disappoint guys.
